Play is an expression of a childs inner self, dreams, motivation, outlet for covert tensions and inhibitions. Children with bleeding disorders experience issues which are psychological in nature and cannot be expressed directly and openly like adult counterparts. These children often face problems in getting along with their peers without a bleeding disorder, low self-esteem, sibling rivalry, poor self image, bullying and adjustment at school and home. Such issues can be resolved using various techniques of play therapy. Play as a therapeutic approach provides children with bleeding disorders a medium for self expression, catharsis, relief, inner growth and changes in maladaptive behaviors, cognition and adjustment patterns.
